Racing: Ferguson on Bettors Creek

Peter Ferguson has the drive on Bettors Creek at Alexandra Park tonight in the absence of Brent Mangos.

Bettors Creek led for most of the way to win over 2200m at Alexandra Park last Friday with Mangos the driver. The Cran Dalgety-trained Bettors Creek had won at Alexandra Park three starts earlier in the hands of Dexter Dunn. He finished third to Smolda and Lets Elope Mangos travelled to Melbourne on Sunday with the 2yr-old Major Star, who is in a heat of the Vicbred series at Bendigo on Tuesday.

Major Star was an impressive winner at Alexandra Park on June 1 in his only start.

Mangos had not intended to take Major Star to Australia until the Breeders' Crown series in August, but the remaining races for 2yr-olds at Alexandra Park are mainly for non-winners.

The stable co-trainer Hayden Cullen will drive Pocket The Dream and First Home tonight. Pocket The Dream won fresh-up at Alexandra Park on June 1.

First Home finished second to Major Star when having his first start. Ohoka Kentucky could be his stumbling block. Ohoka Kentucky qualified in 3.02.2 for 2400m (mobile) at Ashburton on May 22 when winning his test by 14 lengths. The Christian Cullen-Millwood Touche gelding was then transferred from Mark Fuller at Ohoka to Tony Herlihy at Papakura.

Ohoka Kentucky is a brother of Ohoka Texas (11 wins).
