Commander Jewel recorded her maiden win at Forbury Park in October. She was declared the winner of a heat of the Breeders' Crown as a 2yr-old at Addington when the only entrant.
The Mark Jones-trained filly has since won the New Zealand Trotting Oaks, a race at Oamaru and a heat of the Breeders' Crown at Addington at her last start against one rival.
Hostile Grins is on target to resume in the Kurow Cup on August 7 after a trial win at Ashburton yesterday.
Hostile Grins has won three times, including the Wairio Cup, this season from nine starts.
He was put aside by trainer Tim Butt after being pulled up in the Invercargill Cup in January. He tangled twice and may have struck a knee.
"He was sore after the Invercargill Cup but we couldn't find anything wrong with him. He has been fine since he came back into work," Anthony Butt said.
Hostile Grins ran his last 800m in 56.3 yesterday after starting from 30m.
Surfin Cees led Cruzee Cullen by three lengths at the end of 2400m (mobile) in 3.00.6, the last 800 in 58.2. A winner from three starts for Oamaru trainer Jeremy Douglas, Surfin Cees has not raced since the middle of May.
Royal Cynic qualified in 3.06, seven seconds inside the required time. He is a 3yr-old Christian Cullen-Royal Van gelding trained by David and Catherine Butt.
• A total of 836 standardbred horses have been exported from NZ this season compared with 759 last season. The season ends in 10 days.
"About 100 more horses will be exported this season in the final tally," Mark Bennet, of Harness Racing New Zealand, said.
The number of exports in 2008-09 season was 654.
The total includes horses returned to NZ after campaigning in Australia and broodmares. He said 95% of the exports were to Australia.
• The Kumeu Trotting Club meeting scheduled for August 2 has been abandoned, HRNZ has announced.
"Horse numbers in the north have been stretched in recent weeks and it is felt that this meeting would further stretch the horse population available," Darrin Williams, the national programme co-ordinator, said.
