Jamie Bullard will renew his association with Borninthestates in the $70,000 Riverton Cup on Saturday.
Borninthestates is attempting to repeat his Riverton Cup (2147m) win of three years ago when he was ridden by Ashlee Mundy.
He ran fourth in the race in 2009 and did not start last year.
Borninthestates has not raced since he won the Dunedin Cup (2400m) on February 5 when ridden by Lisa Allpress.
"We have purposely not raced him as we were worried about the weight he would get at Riverton," Michael Pitman, his trainer, said.
He is expecting 59kg. Borninthestates carried 59kg in his 2008 win. He carried 59kg to win both the Queenstown Cup at Cromwell and Invercargill Cup in December.
Bullard rode the 8yr-old in both those races. Bullard won the 2006 Riverton Cup on Get Up.
Borninthestates has been at Riverton since Thursday with other members of the Pitman stable.
"He has been at Waikouaiti before going to Riverton and has done plenty of work," Pitman said.
Spunky Rhythm (2002-03), trained by Grant Laursen, is the most recent dual winner of the Riverton Cup. The previous dual winner was Willypay, who was trained by Fred Sycamore, in 1968 and 1970. Visionary was successful in 1902 and 1906.
An 8yr-old has not won the race since Fred's Fortune, trained by Sheryl Douglas, in 1988.
Others of that age in the field on Saturday are Lautenschlager, Relampago and Biman. Lautenschlager won the race last year.
Pitman has also nominated Peyow Peyow, who returned to winning form at Riverton on Thursday. He won the Waikouaiti Cup in January.
Pitman considered Peyow Peyow was ridden "indifferently" when 12th in the Riverton Cup last year. Two days later the Hunza Court gelding won the Southern Champion Hack Handicap.
Stable apprentice Brittany Moore, who rode him in the Waikouaiti Cup and on Thursday, has the mount.
