Choise Achiever, the well-performed 4yr-old this season, has been withdrawn from the Harness Jewels to recover from the effect of a quarter crack.

"It flared up during the Interdominion and we thought we had got it right but it has affected his system," Tim Butt, his West Melton trainer, said.

"He will go out for a couple of months and then be prepared for the New Zealand Cup in the spring."

Choise Achiever has won 10 of his 19 starts. He won six races in succession this season and $116,287 in stakes. His wins include the group two Pelorous Classic for 4yr-olds at Waterlea, the Amberley Cup at Rangiora and a double at the New Zealand Cup meeting in November.

Stablemate The Big Mach, winner of seven races, is under offer to Sydney.

Jack Carmichael, the owner-trainer of Flaming Freida, a maiden winner at Washdyke on Sunday, was a prominent trainer some 40 years ago.

Carmichael, now 87, trained and drove Globe Bay (1972 New Zealand Cup), Precocious (1973 Interdominion Trotters' Final in Sydney and 1971 Dominion Handicap), Chequer Board (1969 Easter Cup) and Astralight (1965 Rowe Cup). He bred Flaming Freida from Freida Holmes, whom he trained to win three races including a mile at Ashburton in 1.58.6.

Guadeloupe, who has not raced since he won at Gore early in December, won a workout from 60m at Motukarara on Saturday. He has been entered for the Oamaru meeting on Sunday.

Mah Sish, the fastest workout winner at Motukarara, has been entered at Addington on Friday night. Trained by Dean Taylor for Dunedin breeder Kim Taylor (no relation), Mah Sish has won five of his seven starts since he began racing three months ago.

"He is one of those horses who really turns it on once he gets out on the track," Taylor said.

Taylor has put aside Captain Peacock and River Black for spells. Captain Peacock won over 2600m (mobile) in 3.10.8 at Addington in February, following on from success in the New Zealand Derby last season.

River Black won four of his eight starts as a 3yr-old this season. He was severely hampered at his last start in the Southern Supremacy Stakes at Invercargill when the tyre and tube came off the wheel of his sulky early in the race.

The 2yr-old pacer Jinky Johnson qualified in a solo run at Forbury Park yesterday.

He recorded a faster mile rate than Terrorway in the main trial for pacers.

Jinky Johnson rated 2.02.7 for 1700m (mobile), 4sec inside the required time. He is a gelding by Enrique from Our Sunshine Girl trained by Martin Denton. Enrique is the sire of the recent winner, Ronnoco.

Terrorway, unbeaten in his two starts, both at Wyndham in January, rated 2.05.9 for 2200m (mobile).
