Belkmyster ended his season in the best possible way at Rangiora yesterday- and gave his owners something to look forward to next season.
The Graeme Anderson-trained pacer conquered a tidy field to win the group 3 Rangiora Classic.
It was a result which made Anderson very popular with the Met Seven Syndicate, many of whom were on course to see the victory.
''He probably deserved that,'' Anderson said.
''He could have won the Central Otago Cup if it wasn't for a flat tyre and he was unlucky in the Invercargill Cup.
''His work had been first-class this week so I was confident he would go a really good race, but with the draw he had [barrier 8], you couldn't be too confident.''
The son of Mach Three will now head to the paddock for a spell, with Anderson eyeing up the second Tuesday in November for the rising 6yr-old.
''With that win he would qualify for the New Zealand Cup, and with it being an Addington syndicate, you would imagine they would want to have a go.''
The $27,566 winning stake pushed Belkmyster well past the $100,000 mark in stakes earned in his career.
