Ardghal is being treated for a respiratory infection after his late scratching from the 2yr-old race at Winton yesterday.
"We had him geared up to race when he started coughing and discharging from the nostril and the veterinary advice was not to risk racing him," Katrina Price, the co-trainer of Ardghal, said.
"We are treating him now and hope to get to the Sires' Stakes Silver [at Ashburton next Tuesday]."
Ardghal was an impressive last-start winner at Ascot Park on April 30. He was transferred to David and Catherine Butt after finishing second to Orl Black in the Kindergarten Stakes at Wyndham but he performed poorly in a Sires' Stakes heat at Rangiora.
"He returned home and we turned him out but he was so high-spirited in the paddock that we brought him back into work," Price said.
The Price stable has Easybet and Bella Bambina resuming at Forbury Park on Friday night.
The 3yr-old fillies clash.
Easybet, a half-sister to Ardghal, has been out of action with a hoof problem since she was unplaced on January 13. She won her other start at Winton in December in 1.59.1 for the mile.
Bella Bambina won at Winton in March from three starts. She has not raced for six weeks.
The 2yr-old race yesterday was won by Waltzing With Cullen. It was the third win in six starts for the Christian Cullen-Idancedallnight colt trained by Kirk Larsen for Jean Feiss, of Melbourne.
"We are hoping to get a start in the Harness Jewels but he may come up short in stakes.
"There is a $4000 race for him at Invercargill next Friday," Larsen said.
Waltzing With Cullen has $8660 in stake earnings and he is 16th in order of qualification.
Larsen said he would take Waltzing With Cullen to Melbourne in August for the Breeders' Crown.
Waltzing With Cullen was a $30,000 purchase at the 2010 premier yearling sale when offered by Ian Dobson, who stands Christian Cullen.
Waltzing With Cullen is the first foal of Idancedallnight, the winner of the group two Nevele R Stakes as a 2yr-old and five other races.
