Anvils Best Ever was taken to the front at the 1300m by trainer-driver Nigel McGrath and won by eight lengths from Lord Forbes, who recorded 3.58.7 after starting from 40m.
Anvils Best Ever lowered the track record of 4.03.2 set by Highview Tommy in the Tuapeka Cup last year.
The New Zealand record for 3200m is 3.56.7 set by Changeover in the 2008 New Zealand Cup.
It was the seventh win for Anvils Best Ever, owned by Small Car World (Graham Beirne), Ann Seaton and her daughter, Ann-Marie).
Anvils Best Ever has bettered a 2.00 rate in four of his wins including a 1.58.9 rate for 1700m (mobile) when he won the final of the Young Guns series at Alexandra Park in 2009 as a 2yr-old.
He ran a 2.00.5 rate yesterday.
• Franco Ledger completed his race preparation for the Sires' Stakes Final for 3yr-olds at Addington on November 9 with an all-the-way win yesterday against older horses.
He is unbeaten in four starts this season.
His trainer Hamish Hunter said that The Smiler would now accompany Franco Ledger to the New Zealand Cup meeting after a win yesterday.
Both horses are owned by the What Ever syndicate and Hunter.
