Another Homer, with Peter Davis back in the sulky, is well placed in the Nelson Winter Cup Prelude at Richmond today.

The winner of five races, Another Homer is off the front in a discretionary handicap for 2-6 win pacers.

Another Homer finished third to About Ambition and Charlie Wright at Ashburton on Monday. The Holmes Hanover gelding thrived on racing during the Christmas-New Year period.

He finished third in the Westport Cup, second in the Reefton Cup and won the Roxburgh Cup with Davis the driver.

Davis has gained the drive again with Balcairn trainer Robbie Holmes opting for Scot's Courage.

Holmes trained and drove Kiwi Fantasy to win the Nelson Winter Cup last year for Hamish Scott and Kim Lawson, the part-owners of Scot's Courage.

Kiwi Fantasy finished seventh in the Cup Prelude. He has been retired after a recurring foot ailment.

Scot's Courage, the winner of two races, has not raced for two months. He was eased in work when amiss in the blood. He won a workout at Rangiora last Friday, sprinting his last 800m in 57.3.

"He goes super fresh and we expect a really good run from Scot's Courage," Carla Robertson-Holmes, wife of the trainer, said.

"He is not so good at backing up but we have to start on the first day to be given a preference to start in the Cup."

She said Another Homer could be expected to perform better on the second day (Sunday).

The stable also has Tehoro Bliss (race 1), Bettor Odds (race 2), Change Of Mind (race 5), Mister Powell and Rojam Cullen (race 6) and Puerto Escondido (race 8) engaged today.

"Tehoro Bliss is a nice trotter but just lacks a bit of speed," Robertson-Holmes said.

The mare has been placed in her last three starts.

Bettor Odds was the beaten favourite at his last start at Addington on June 1.

"Rojam Cullen has a lot of ability but he is proving difficult to steer," she said.

Davis is also the driver of the 2yr-old filly, Fly The Flag (race 9). A winner at Motukarara and Forbury Park, Fly The Flag finished a close third to Meads Quaff and Helicon at Addington last Friday.

Black Mambo (race 10) is now trained by Robert Dunn. Black Mambo and McKay (three wins) have been transferred to Dunn from Michael House.
