Gavin Cook, the reigning world champion amateur driver, was seen in the role of a winning trainer and owner at Forbury Park last night.

Cook was successful with Franco Transit, driven by Andrew Veint in the race for junior drivers.

Franco Transit had his other win for Cook at his second start at Methven in October 2008 when driven by Dexter Dunn. Franco Transit, who is held on lease, was having his 34th start last night.

Cook, who also races Father Bill, won the world title in the United States in 2008 in the series staged every two years.

John Kriechbaumer, of Drury, is the New Zealand representative for the world series in France this month. He is the New Zealand champion this season. Cook will attend the series as part of the support team for Kriechbaumer.

Cook is due to drive in Italy in an invitation series later in the month.

Cook has previously driven in Italy. He has also driven in Wales and Australia.

• Alexandra owner John Hamilton was on good terms after Trojan won last night. Hamilton bought out the half share of Norm Weir during the week.

"We had an offer for the horse and I wanted to keep him so I brought the other half share," Hamilton said.

"I bred him and he is my pride and joy."

Trojan, trained by Geoff and Judy Knight, has now won seven races.

Cambo, who finished second, and Armbro Winger (sixth) were each claimed for $7000 last night.

Cambo was claimed by a Waikato group including trainer Rob Lawson and his junior driver son, Simon.

Cambo had been bought by Bill Bain after finishing third a week earlier and transferred to the Knight stable.

Armbro Winger, who faded after leading last night, was claimed by Wayne Higgs, the Redwood trainer. Armbro Winger has won six races.

Higgs claimed Cool Fella the previous week. Cool Fella is engaged at the Nelson meeting today.

The claiming race was won by the 9yr-old I'm A Dazzler, who joined the stable of Warren Stapleton last year. I'm A Dazzler had his previous win in November 2007 when trained by part-owner Graeme Lamb.

"I must have had the horse for about 12 months," Stapleton said.

"I have had a lot of trouble with him."
