Aleana, who started from 30m ran the 2200m in 2.48.2, 3.4sec inside the mark set by St Croix last November.
Aleana came from six lengths off the pace at the 400m to win by a long neck.
Aleana has won four races in nine starts for Crackett in the past two months after a maiden win three years earlier.
Aleana was among four wins for leading reinsman Dexter Dunn. He also won with Elation Franco, Armbro Winger and Yokozuna. The latter pair are trained by Graeme Anderson and Amber Hoffman.
• Shapiro won at Forbury Park last night 23 years after a horse of the same name won on the track.
Shapiro, 3yr-old filly, held on gamely last night after working to reach to lead early.
She is trained at Knapdale by Colin Baynes and Robin Swain for neighbour Bill McDonald, his 85-year-old mother, Iona, of Gore and his sister-in-law Lyn Bruce, of Wellington.
They bred Shapiro from a mating of Life Sign and their mare Autobahn, who won a race from the Swain stable at Invercargill in 2004.
The earlier Shapiro was a Gaines Minbar-Parlez Moi gelding who won four races for owner-trainer Craig Legat before being sold to Australia.
• Akaroa Charlie had his second win in five days since joining the Winton stable of Lauren Pearson three weeks ago.
Part-owner Martin Buckley transferred Akaroa Charlie when his track at Glenorchy became too wet for training. The 5yr-old gelding has been used as a trekking horse.
Partyboysimon (second) and Cool Fella (fourth) were claimed last night. Partyboysimon was claimed for $6000 by Wayne Higgs, the Redwood trainer.
Cool Fella was claimed for $4000. Cool Fella will be trained by Andrew Stuart at Rangiora for a syndicate. A draw was required when two claims were submitted for both horses.
• Mum Beat Lyall, named for a notable feat by her dam, Sunny Action, won the maiden trot last night at her fourth start.
The 3yr-old filly is trained at North Taieri by Martin Denton, who races her with Garry Clarke, of Dunedin. They bred Mum Beat Lyall.
Sunny Action ended the 20-race winning streak of champion Lyell Creek in the 2000 New Zealand Trotting Free-For-All.
Sundon's Way was second and Lyell Creek third. Sunny Action has also left Flaming Action, who won three races when trained by Tim Butt and Phil Anderson.
• The Forbury Park Trotting Club has been allocated a Saturday night meeting next season. The meeting is on November 6. Saturday night racing was a regular feature of Forbury Park programmes.
