The 59kg carried by Hold It Harvey to win the group three $70,000 Thompson Handicap at Trentham on Saturday is the biggest weight mastered in the race for 75 years.
Silver Ring carried 10st 6lb (63.5kg) to win the Thompson Handicap (1600m) in 1936. That is a weight-carrying record for the race which was first held in 1892.
Silver Ring gave away up to 19kg to his rivals when the minimum for the race was 44.5kg. Hold It Harvey carried 6kg above the minimum.
Hold It Harvey, trained at Riccarton by Terri Rae for Matt Shepherd, has also won the group three White Robe Lodge Handicap (1600m) at Wingatui the past two years with 58.5kg.
Jamie Bullard, who rode Hold It Harvey, missed the mount on Iceskates in race 10 due to a travel commitment. Jonathan Riddell rode Iceskates to win.
