George Strickland, a 19-year-old jumps rider from England, has his first New Zealand rides at Riverton tomorrow.
Strickland has the mounts on Joint Effort and Mala Strana.
Strickland joined the Wingatui stable of Paul Richards three weeks ago and he will be there for the winter.
He has had six rides as a professional.
The Richards-trained Jamie's Chance has had a setback with a stone bruise in his preparation for the Great Western Steeplechase on May 1.
"He has a stone bruise in a hind hoof and we have been swimming him this week.
''We have poulticed the foot and have put a shoe on him with a protective plate," Richards said.
"I had planned to give him a race at Riverton on Friday."
Jamie's Chance, now 10, ran a bold race fresh up for sixth on the flat at Gore on March 27.
He had not raced since June, 2007 after being sidelined with a fractured cannon bone.
He won the 2007 Great Western after one lead-up race on the flat.
He also won the Otago Steeplechase and finished third in the Waikato Steeples the same year.
Richards won the Western last year with Last Frisco, who was retired after she developed lameness during her preparation this year.
Never Plead Guilty, Lucrative and Reconcile have been turned out by Richards as they do no handle wet tracks.
Never Plead Guilty won the Dunedin Cup in February.
