Fortune Spirit, the first foal of the fine racemare Perceptible, won at Riccarton yesterday when having his first start.
The 3yr-old Danzighill colt is trained at Riccarton by Shane Kennedy, who shares the ownership with Phil Blacktopp, of Christchurch, Terry Lines, of Auckland and Louis Vieceli, of Christchurch.
They bought Fortune Spirit as a 2yr-old after he had been passed in for $37,500 at the 2006 South Island Sale.
He had a reserve of $50,000.
"We liked the horse and bid on him and Brian [Anderton] gave me a lot of confidence about making the decision to buy him," Kennedy said.
Perceptible won 11 races including the White Robe Lodge Handicap, Dunedin, Southland and Gore Guineas when trained by Brian and Shane Anderton.
Perceptible is being bred from by Brian and Lorraine Anderton.
The Anderton stable won with the horse Vitique yesterday.
Fortune Spirit was ridden by the Kennedy stable apprentice Michelle Carston.
The Anderton stable apprentice Jay Misbah rode Vitique.
Carston and Misbah are competing in the apprentice jockeys' championship at Oamaru tomorrow.
The right of re-entry time for the Harness Jewels has been changed from 5pm on Thursday to 5pm on Friday, the day before the next series at Ashburton on May 30, 2009.
The re-entry time has been 5pm on Thursday for the two series staged to date.
One Dream was scratched on the Friday from the Harness Jewels at Cambridge this year.
Everlaughing Life would have entered the field if the re-entry time had been Friday not Thursday.
