Wanaka triathlete Merryn Greenwood finished 12th of 21 professional women athletes competing in the Ironman 70.3 Rapperswil-Jona race in Switzerland on Sunday.Her time of 4hr 42min 3sec was a personal best.
The half-ironman distance event attracted more than 2000 competitors and comprised a one-lap lake swim, two-lap cycle and a two-lap run.
The race was an important stage in her build-up to the Challenge Roth long-distance triathlon in Germany next month.
Greenwood said afterwards she was pleased with her result and felt she was meeting her goals.
She will continue training in Europe for six weeks before the race in Germany on July 13.
