The Dunedin primary and intermediate schools triathlon in Port Chalmers yesterday attracted 560 competitors from 36 schools.

That was up about 100 competitors from last year, Sport Otago event and project co-ordinator Isaac Smith said.

The top six place-getters in each category will go forward to the Otago schools triathlon which is in Balclutha next Tuesday.

Winners were: Year 5 boys, Leo Blair, 24:08.4; Year 5 boys team, East Taieri Green, 24:36.6; Year 5 girls, Neave O’Connell, 25:44.9; Year 5 girls team, ABBOTS 51, 26:37.0; Year 5 mixed team, Fairfield Mixed Y5, 26:18.0; Year 6 boys, Jackson Phillips, 22:21.8; Year 6 boys team, Mac Bay Year 6 Boys 1, 21:54.9; Year 6 girls, Vicky Aburn, 24:02.7; Year 6 girls team, ABBOTS 61, 24:13.2; Year 6 mixed team, Outram 1, 22:41.3.
