Snowsports New Zealand is seeking two new directors to add to its executive board and wants an applicant with links to North Island skifields.
The national sporting organisation wants to expand its board of directors from five members to seven, as a result of a recently adopted constitution.
The new Snowsports NZ (SNZ) constitution has finalised the integration of the seven different snowsports bodies, which were previously separate and self-governing entities.
The five member unions of SNZ comprise groups covering the winter sports disciplines of snowboarding, freeskiing, alpine ski racing, adaptive snowsports, and cross-country skiing.
SNZ chairman Rick Pettit, of Queenstown, said the change in constitution meant individuals from the five member unions could now vote for the directors they wanted on the board.
Previously, directors were elected by single votes cast from the unions themselves, he said.
The SNZ board of directors consists of Mr Pettit, former Winter Olympic snowboarding representative Pam Bell, of Wellington, travel agency business owner and Lake Wanaka Tourism board chairman Ross McRobie, of Wanaka, cross-country skiing representative Alastair Smail, of Auckland, and management consultant Paul Lodges, of Christchurch.
With the required board expansion, SNZ hopes to widen its representation to include directors with knowledge of the North Island skifield industry and an understanding of the youth market, Mr Pettit said.
A large percentage of snowsports participants were active on Ruapehu skifields and the sports' future - particularly in freeskiing and snowboarding - revolved around young people, Mr Pettit said.
