You could say Wanaka skier Janina Kuzma has it all - she can rip up a big mountain freeski run, or throw down a series of inverted tricks in a halfpipe.
But behind her ability is years of hard work and a gruelling training schedule.
She has a four-year plan to ''come home with the gold medal'' from the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, and one rung on that ladder is competing in the halfpipe at the Winter Games at Cardrona.
Qualifying is on Friday and the finals are next Sunday.
Kuzma (29) will probably replicate her winning run of six or seven tricks that earned her the New Zealand Freeski Open halfpipe win last week.
They are already an improvement on the high amplitude spins and grabs that saw her place fifth at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
The career-best result in Russia ''really gave me a lot of confidence'', she said.
Since then, her rotations have increased, along with her ability to improve her tricks.
Progression, it seems, is a given for Kuzma, who first started competing in big mountain free skiing competitions 10 years ago.
''I'm still learning and that's what drives me. I want to get better and better every year.''
Now the world No2 halfpipe skier, she is also the Central Otago sportsperson of the year, an eight-time New Zealand big mountain champion, an X Games and Dew Tour competitor, a two-time Canadian champion and two-time world heli challenge champion.
Guided by Snow Sports New Zealand head park and pipe coach Tom Willmott, she can be found on the mountain at 8am most days, doing her technical training in the halfpipe until around noon.
Afternoons are spent in the gym doing lower or upper body strength sessions.
Trampoline training also allows her to chalk up about 100 throws she needs to perfect a new trick.
This number might include imagining it in her head, Kuzma said.
''Imagery is a huge thing that we work on.''
Mentally and physically preparing for the Olympics is a four-year cycle.
She spent last year and this year perfecting the tricks.
Next year and 2017 will be all about qualifying for the Winter Olympics.
By the time she is standing on the top of the halfpipe in Korea, three years from now, running through tricks in her mind before she begins qualifying, you can bet the dedicated and talented Kuzma will be ready.
