Six Otago athletes will wear the black singlet at the Oceania championships later this year.

The group are part of the 121-strong team — the largest New Zealand team to compete at the Oceania championships — in Suva, Fiji, from June 1 to 8.

Long distance runner Becky Aitkenhead will compete in the senior women’s 1500m event after winning her first senior 1500m national title at the national track and field championships last month.

Otago will be well represented in the senior men’s by Cameron Moffitt, John Gerber and Hayato Yoneto.

Moffitt, the national senior men’s 400m hurdles champion, will compete in the 400m hurdles and the decathlon.

Gerber will race in the 100m and 400m and Yoneto will compete in the 100m.

Otago’s strength in para athletics continues with Josh Chisholm and Mac Denniston rounding out the team.

Chisholm will compete in the F40 shot put while Denniston, who has had a remarkable rise in the sport this year, will compete in the F34 discus, javelin and seated shot put.
