Records fall at champs

Alexandra para thrower Mac Denniston broke four national records at the weekend.

Denniston broke the F34 men’s under-18 discus record with his throw of 16.94m at the Otago track and field championships at the Caledonian.

He also broke the senior men’s under-20, under-19 and under-18 javelin records with his throw of 15.86m.

To top it all off, the 18-year-old equalled his own national record for men’s under-18 shot put with his throw of 6.86m.

Milly Marshall-Kirkwood also broke a national para record.

The Inglewood F57 thrower broke the senior women’s under-20, under-19 and under-19 discus records with her throw of 18.51m.

Another Central Otago athlete also broke three Otago records.

Phoebe Laker of Wanaka set a new time in the women’s 15, 16 and 17 year 400m with her sprint of 57.40sec.

Liz Mitchell set an Otago masters record in the women’s 60 100m with her time of 14.23sec, as did Phil Napper in the men’s 70 800m with his time of 2min 39.31sec.

Wayne Doyle, of South Canterbury, set two Canterbury masters records in the men’s 60 100m hurdles (18.68sec) and shot put (12.19m).
