Wanaka multisporter Dougal Allan and his three team-mates have won the Baise Outdoor Quest three-day multisport race in China.
It is Allan's first international win, which he shared with Nelson athlete Trevor Voyce. They were racing with defending race champions Jacky Boisset and Mimi Guillot, of France.
Team Chibu 2 crossed the finish line in Le Ye the clear winner. Lafuma was more than 20 minutes back and Adidas Terrex not far behind them, Allan said in his blog yesterday.
The standings were provisional.
"I cannot confirm overall standings for all teams yet. We will have a clear win after winning all three days, Lafuma will be a clear second also after finishing second on each of the three days of racing. Third spot though, could be interesting. We will have to await the prizegiving and closing ceremony tonight to find out," Allan said.
Wanaka multisporter Joanna Williams was racing for Adidas Terrex. The fate of staged race novice, Simone Maier, also of Wanaka, was not known last night. She was racing for Chiru Endurance with team-mates from France and Australia.
"I have to say, it feels like a dream come true to win my first international race. It was a real privilege to race alongside Jacky and Mimi, who really are extraordinary athletes and stars of the sport on the international scene.
"It was also an outstanding experience racing with Trev. This is also his first international win, so to share that with him is quite special and I hope we race together again in the future," Allan said.
