He completed the 300m sea swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run in 31min 55.1sec to win both the masters 40+ and overall categories. Another masters competitor, Ian Graham, was next in in 32min 59.9sec.
Grayson Westgate was the fastest school competitor, finishing third overall in 33min 42.7sec.
Hannah Hunsche was the first woman, eighth overall in 36min 36.5sec. She was followed by Kristy Eyles and Claire Anderton.
Team Rant won the duathlon in 31min 08.5sec, while Paul Gough was second in 33min 54.5sec.
Matheson Colquhoun was the fastest school competitor, the 13-year-old finishing fifth overall in 38min 08.3sec.
Fellow school competitor Georgia Mitchell was the fastest woman, placing seventh overall in 39min 48.3sec.
The event, hosted by the Dunedin triathlon club, attracted 57 total competitors and had been the first in ''quite a few years'' that had featured a sea swim.
