About 120 players from all over the South Island were in action on 30 tables at the 49th South Island Clubs Table Tennis Tournament at ILT Stadium Southland yesterday.
Representing the Invercargill team, Shelley Neal (pictured at right with Barry Ellis) said she started to play the sport when she was 10.
Since then, it had become a passion.
Last year she observed the competition, but she decided to join the Invercargill Working Men’s Club.
"It is good for fitness, mental health, and you can meet a lot of people. It is a healthy addiction."
She will also team with Ellis to represent Otago at the New Zealand Championships.
