No 138: Nuggets-Jets triple overtime thriller (2006)

It was one of the most exciting games in the history of the Otago Nuggets.

Miles Pearce broke the franchise's rebound record with 28 boards and Branduinn Fullove amassed an incredible 42 points.

The Nuggets still lost, but there was no shame in defeat that evening. The Manawatu Jets took three periods of overtime before they eventually won 123-121.

Fullove played the last 15 minutes gasping for breath after he had sustained a nasty blow to the ribs. He kept his side in the game with a gutsy display.

Pearce, too, was unbelievable. The big-hearted centre dominated the paint with a muscular effort and leaped until his legs were jelly.

"You can't be disappointed with a game like that," coach Rick Castle said after the game.

"What else can you do?"

Remarkably the game almost went into a fourth period of overtime with Fullove missing a put-back in the dying seconds.
