No 124: Suzie Bates smashes Pakistan (2009)
Otago golden girl Suzie Bates lit up the 2009 World Cup and rewrote the record books with an astonishing display of power hitting.
Bates took the long handle to the Pakistan attack, blasting 19 fours and six sixes in a rapid innings of 168 off just 105 balls.
It was the highest score at the tournament and broke the New Zealand one-day record set by Karen le Comber (135 not out), against Ireland in Dublin in 1996.
"I was just in the zone and I just kept going," Bates said later.
She combined with captain Haidee Tiffen (100) in a 262-run partnership for the second wicket, a New Zealand record for any wicket.
Unsurprisingly, New Zealand easily won the game against Pakistan and went on to contest the final against England.
England won by four wickets but Bates was one of the best batswomen at the tournament.
She amassed 275 runs at an average of 45.83.
