His love of the sport and the opportunities of playing at the masters games appears to know no bounds and he is making his third visit to Dunedin for the games.
He has also played in every Masters Games in Whanganui since 2007.
He comes all the way from Colombo, in Sri Lanka, and plays only table tennis
The 78-year-old retired paediatrician has a real history with the game.
He was the captain of the senior Sri Lankan table tennis side from 1965-71, having taken the game up when he was a child.
However, he gave it up in the early 1970s to concentrate on his career and his family.
But his love for the game never went away and in 2003, a couple of years after he had retired, he took the sport up again.
"It is quite a popular sport in Sri Lanka. When I retired I had more time for it. From that time I always wanted to play," he said.
"I love coming to New Zealand.
"A lot of the tournaments that I go to I only get to play in my own age group. That isn’t so good.
"But here at the Masters Games they let me play in the other age groups, so I can play a lot more games."
His regular doubles partner is not attending the games but Lucas does not mind as he still gets to play a lot of games.
He has played plenty of games this weekend, showing a quality touch around the table.
