Curling: Win for Dunedin club

The Dunedin Curling Club bucked the trend of round-robin games to win the Wendorf Trophy at the Dunedin Ice Stadium over the weekend.

The three-day national fours competition was keenly contested by teams from Auckland, Central Otago, Dunedin and Gore, with all seven-game round-robin matches going down to the wire.

But the final between the Dunedin team, skipped by Dan Mustapic, outclassed defending champion Maniototo, skipped by Peter Becker, to win the final 9-0.

The play-off to decide third and fourth was not quite as one-sided, with the Hans Fauenlob-skipped team pulling away in final games to beat Alexandra 7-4.

The Wendorf Trophy has been held as a national fours championship since 1994.
