The Wānaka multisport athlete is lining up for the Taieri Mouth Multisport and Duathlon on Sunday.
"We’re stoked to have Simone come along and be part of the event," organiser Scott Weatherall said.
"I know there’s quite a few boys out there that are pretty keen to give it everything and see if they can at least stay somewhere close to her."
Maier, originally from Germany, was the first woman to win the Coast to Coast three years in a row from 2021 to this year. She also won in 2019.
Another Wānaka multisport athlete, Dougal Allan, competed at Taieri Mouth a couple of years ago, sparking Maier’s interest.
"We’ve sort of had chats on and off for the last couple of years," Weatherall said.
"But this time aligns for her, because obviously she’s got other events and activities that she’s got going on."
The event, running for the fifth year, has about 85 athletes competing as teams or individuals in the various events, including a road bike, mountainbiking, kayaking and running.
There is a new mountainbike course this year with a longer climb through the Wenita Forest and the multisport has a Le Mans start, getting under way with a beach run then paddling up the river and a longer run back towards Taieri Mouth.
A "have a go" event has been added for children and adults, and there is a have-a-go children’s run on the sand, for the children to "chew some down time" while their parents compete.
