Mount Hutt College pupil Patrick Duff gets airborne during the under-14 boys downhill race at the New Zealand Schools South Island Mountain Bike Championships in Dunedin on Saturday.

Duff placed second.

Mt Aspiring College was crowned the overall champion school, with a total of 1413 points. Marlborough Boys’ College placed second with 1080 points and Wakatipu High School finished in the bronze medal position with 1071 points.

Dunstan High School bagged a double, Bradley Harris winning the overall men’s under-20 title and Imi Blance winning the overall women’s under-20 title.

Taieri College’s Emma Cunningham was the winner of the overall title in the under-17 girls event, while her younger sister, Rachel, placed third in the girls under-15 category.

The championships were staged across three days at Signal Hill and attracted about 350 riders.

There were no serious injuries, just the usual bumps and bruises.
