From afar: Every one a star in Farah’s Fantastic Fifteen

Ok , so Sonny Bill Williams has a dream XIII based on who he respects on and off the field, in union and league.

Is it so shocking that Richie McCaw and Dan Carter didn't make the cut? Not really.

Sonny Bill has selected his 'brothers' - those that he knows intimately, who have impacted on his life, and whose skills and mindset he admires.

I can't imagine McCaw, Carter and Williams BFFs off the field.

I was asked once to name my dream Maori rugby team and I included some female players in the mix because they were trailblazers in women's rugby, had an impact beyond the rugby field, and were highly skilful, intelligent and amazing Maori athletes.

Selecting 15 outstanding and upstanding female athletes in New Zealand who could potentially make the best women's rugby team ever would be an interesting exercise to go through, so here goes.

I'd have four-time World champion, three-time World Indoor champion, two-time Olympic and three-time Commonwealth champion Valerie Adams, Fiao'o Fa'amausili (current Black Fern captain) and Pirates RFC stalwart Margaret McKenzie in the front row to start with.

Games are won and lost in the front row, and these three would increase the intimidation factor exponentially with their physicality, power and passion.

For the tall tower effect, I'd go for Silver Ferns Casey Kopua (before or after she has had her baby, of course) and Leana de Bruin.

Netballers have great elevation and aerial ball handling skills, and as defenders on the court, they would be able to handle the physicality that occurs in a lineout with no problems.

I would put Alhambra Union legend Jacinta (Jac) Nielsen in the No6 jersey without hesitation because she is the kind of person players would follow to the end of the earth, and despite her gruff exterior she has a heart of gold.

Ex-Black Fern Rochelle Martin is just as athletic now as she was in her rugby days, and as a member of the NZ fire service, she would still be able to foot it with the fittest and fastest openside flankers today.

She is also good for a laugh and that is important to have in a team.

To round off the forward pack, I'd put some brains and brawn at the back with Helen Littleworth.

Someone who was a champion for women's rugby before it became trendy, and who continues to inspire young female athletes today as a team physio.

Who is the Aaron Smith equivalent in women's rugby?

Probably Kendra Cocksedge who is nippy and lippy, but maybe someone like Lisa Carrington could make the conversion from kayaking to halfback?

Carrington is a smiling assassin, and behind that friendly exterior is a mentally tough, physically tuned athlete who could use that co-ordinated power she has to do well in any sport.

She has the stature of a halfback, so if her kayaking career isn't going places (which it is, so this is wishful thinking) she could consider rugby!

At first five, it is impossible to ignore the legendary Anna Richards, who has officially retired from playing but has taken that experience and passed it on as a coach of the Hong Kong women's sevens team.

She is the Dan Carter equivalent (or better) in women's rugby and would definitely make Farah's Fantastic Fifteen.

Then there is Suzy Shortland, a touch convert who dazzled in the Black Ferns with her ability to put others in space.

She was street-smart, clever, and talented and brought innovation to the game at a time when women's rugby needed it.

At centre would have to be Annaleah Rush, who learnt her trade while at Otago, playing for the University Club.

She was the girl next door who could smash down your door if she ran at it with conviction and she also had an infectious laugh that would de-stress the team when necessary.

On the wings would be current Black Fern Honey Hireme and the ‘‘black panther'' of women's rugby, Vanessa Coutes.

Together they would be a fast and furious force to be reckoned with. And last but not least at fullback, I'd put Lydia Ko - yes you read it here, Lydia Ko.

With her ability to drop the ball where she wanted when she wanted, and the skill to read the lay of the land ahead of her, with a bit of training she could be the bolter.

If SBW can do put his dream team together, anyone can
