Win literally surgical for Frew

It was hard to believe Wendy Frew was in hospital having surgery just two weeks ago.

The Southern Steel captain was instrumental in the team's 69-53 win over the Central Pulse in the ANZ Premiership final on her return to the team.

She had missed the past two games as she recovered from a van accident.

''Adrenaline's pumping mate, it's the final,'' she said when asked if she was still feeling any effects.

''I was good to go, so happy to get out there and just do my job.''

The wing defence said it was an epic performance that got the job done.

''[I am feeling] unreal, to be honest.

''That's what we've worked for since the 10th of January, so the girls have worked extremely hard.

''To be 15-0 going into the final obviously there was a lot of pressure on. The girls put in an epic performance, so pretty stoked.''

The wing defence brought intensity early on and was outstanding in disrupting the Pulse attack.

However, she heaped the praise on her team-mates, who helped her slot back into the line-up.

''The girls had our back like you wouldn't believe.

''They kind of worked a bit harder for us. [Frew and Te Paea Selby-Rickit], we've been out of the game for a couple of weeks.

''So we just tried to fit back in and do our own jobs well.

''I feel like the other girls stepped up and really played their A game tonight.''
