A big weekend of netball is looming for Dunedin.
The Southern Steel will be in town and is scheduled to play the Mainland Tactix at the Edgar Centre at 2pm on Sunday.
This is the first of two ANZ Premiership games the Steel will play in Dunedin this year.
Ticket sales have been steady and about 1200 of a potential 2800 had been sold yesterday.
A large walk-up crowd is expected, as is usually the case for the Dunedin games.
The Steel’s Invercargill-based players will link with the Dunedin-based ones in the city on Saturday.
They will hold a meet-the-team event at the Meridian Mall from 1pm to 3pm, as the team does before its first Dunedin game every year.
There will be a treasure hunt for kids to search the mall to find the players and plenty of free gear will be on offer.
The Steel will then set its focus on notching its eighth consecutive win, against a Tactix team which has now had 15 losses in a row.
Last time the two sides met, the Steel put in a record-breaking display, scoring a franchise-high 90 goals in winning 90-41. Goal shoot Jhaniele Fowler-Reid scored 70 herself.
Afterwards, South will play Mainland in the Beko League, beginning at 4pm.
Mainland is faring better in the Beko League, having won four of its five games.
The defending champion South team has slumped to a two-win, three-loss record.
It comes off a hefty 65-51 loss to the unbeaten table-topping Central team.
The Edgar Centre doors will open at 1pm and entertainment begins from 1.15pm.
