College kept its place in the premier A grade after a 46-44 win over Macandrew A in the promotion-relegation match at the Edgar Centre on Thursday night.
Macandrew coach Lana Morrison said there "was nothing in it" but College was just "a bit more match-hardened" and held her side.
College won the first quarter 11-10 and took a two-goal lead into the break at half-time. It stretched the margin to fours goals but Macandrew finished well, winning the final quarter 15-13.
College's Liz Herbison shot well with 21 goals from 25 attempts, and centre Phillipa Cashmere had a busy game.
For Macandrew, Tiffany Dodds scored 27 from 34 for Macandrew and Bridget Smaill poached some good ball on defence.
Round two of the premier A tournament gets under way today with University Albion expected to be too strong for College. University was undefeated in the first round.
Phys Ed A will play Phys Ed B in the other match, with Phys Ed C giving up its spot to make room for the club's B team.
Phys Ed B won the first round of the Premier B tournament but was not allowed to play in the promotion-relegation match.
With just six teams in premier A, the Dunedin Netball Centre believes it is in the best interest of the sport for a club to have no more than two teams in the grade.
Southern A and Southern B have rescheduled their match for Wednesday.
