What crisis? Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken concedes she is concerned about the form of some of her star players but says it is nothing that cannot be turned around.
The Magic's demise in recent weeks has some critics suggesting it is time for a shake-up when the national squad is named on July 31.
With five frontline Silver Ferns forming the core of the Magic side humbled 51-37 in the preliminary final by the Thunderbirds in Hamilton on Sunday, Aitken acknowledged it was not a particularly good sign.
"Crisis is not a word I would use," she said.
"There has been some huge disappointment for the Magic in the last three weeks.
"But the Magic is not the whole of netball in New Zealand."
Asked if the Magic's form slump had forced a rethink in terms of selection, Aitken hinted there would be some new blood but the bulk of the squad was likely to have a familiar look.
"Every time a player performs, they are under the selection microscope.
"There will be some tough decisions to be made but we have to appreciate that some of the other players have not had the scrutiny of finals netball.
"But there will certainly be a mix of players going forward into the New Zealand team."
Aitken said from the outside it was difficult to tell what had gone wrong for the Magic.
Before the team came unstuck in the preliminary final, it suffered a heavy loss to the Vixens in the major semifinal and the Thunderbirds in the final round-robin match.
"I think they just lost their momentum at a very inappropriate time and it shows how cut-throat the competition is.
"You just can't be off your stride at all."
Aitken's job now is to rebuild the players' confidence before they play the World 7 in three tests in August.
"All hope has not gone.
"We know there is a lot of work to do.
"We just have to get together and get stuck in and do it.
"All the [Magic] players would accept that what happened was not the best and we've got to find a way to ensure that they are at their best.
"But I really think each of those players will be soul-searching and I know those girls.
"They are very professional in their attitude and they'll want to turn it around."
Steel pair Adine Wilson and Donna Wilkins are not available for the Silver Ferns.
Both would bolt into the squad on current form.
Mystics centre Temepara George is likely to be recalled after she ended her self-imposed two-year hiatus earlier this year.
Former Silver Ferns and Tactix shooter Jodi Brown has not declared her hand yet, though she was named as an Otago triallist yesterday.
Aitken said Netball New Zealand was still trying to work through Brown's availability with her but said the Ferns had a full schedule which was demanding for a young mother.
Brown took part of last year off to start a family but quickly rediscovered her touch this season.
Asked if there was a lack of depth in New Zealand netball, Aitken acknowledged it was a challenge to unearth the next Irene van Dyk or Julie Seymour.
"It is a challenge for Netball New Zealand and the franchises but they are developing the depth, so if something happens they can go to the bench.
"But if you look at the Australian sides, they have been a lot more willing to give the young players a go this year.
"Apart from a few examples in New Zealand, we have tended to go with experience.
"There is a balance that needs to be found.
"It is not going to help our game long term if we don't get young players out on court."
Meanwhile, Melbourne Vixens co-captain Bianca Chatfield has already ear-marked feisty Adelaide defender Mo'onia Gerrard as the player to stop when the teams meet in Sunday's transtasman netball grand final, AAP reports.
After winning the title of Australia's best netballer late last year, Gerrard has produced a season below her usual standards.
A calf injury meant she missed much of the pre-season and early on she struggled to make her usual physical impact.
However, in recent weeks the athletic 28-year-old has shown glimpses of her best form and was key in shutting down the Magic attack on Sunday.
Chatfield backed her Australian team-mate and good friend to lead the charge in the decider at Hisense Arena next Sunday afternoon.
