Home advantage in run to finals

After going unbeaten through its first 10 games, the Southern Steel has five games left before the ANZ Premiership finals. Jeff Cheshire looks at the run into the finals.

V Northern Stars
Invercargill, tomorrow

The Stars are on the improve, although are six points behind a playoff spot at the moment. They could act as a spoiler team and should not be taken lightly.

V Northern Mystics
Dunedin, June 7

The second of two games in Dunedin and one against a Mystics team two points outside the top three and fighting for its life. It comes with a classy line-up that has underperformed this year, but is capable of toppling any team when things stick.

V Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic
Auckland, June 11

The only team to claim a bonus point against the Steel this year, the Magic will be its opponent at the year’s third Super Sunday. It could be its most dangerous opponent, although it will have to cut out the sloppy patches it has had against the Steel so far.

V Mainland Tactix
Christchurch, June 14

Last time the Steel played the Tactix it was a close encounter as the Steel experimented with its line-up. It would be a surprise to see a repeat of that. The Steel will want to make sure it is building momentum by this stage and a full-strength line-up should be far too good for the winless Tactix.

V Central Pulse
Invercargill, June 19

The Pulse will want to make amends for its 36-point thrashing from the Steel, but is it really that easy. There could be plenty to play for as well. However with the chance this could be a precursor to the final on June 28, expect the Steel to come out looking to deflate whatever confidence the Pulse has left.
