Columba posted a 39-25 over Marlborough Girls’ to top their pool at the South Island secondary schools tournament in Christchurch yesterday.
St Hilda’s and James Hargest also topped their opening pools before crossover games began in the afternoon.
Columba beat Otago Girls’ 53-36, and in the morning Otago Girls’ beat Southland Girls’ 40-27.
St Hilda’s had a 33-23 win over Cashmere, and James Hargest beat Waitaki Girls’ 40-23. Waitaki Girls’ went on to beat Oamaru neighbours St Kevin’s 40-19. Earlier, St Kevin’s lost 42-23 to Craighead.
Central Southland lost 35-19 to St Andrews, but had a 33-29 win over James Hargest in the afternoon. Taieri beat Roncalli 36-29 and beat Verdon 33-18. Verdon also lost 51-12 to St Margaret’s.
Wakatipu lost 34-26 to Marian and had a 27-27 draw with Craighead. Cromwell lost 31-22 to Christchurch Girls’, Mount Aspiring beat Ashburton 44-28, and Cromwell rebounded to beat Mount Aspiring 33-25.
St Peter’s beat Rolleston 31-26 and Dunstan lost 41-32 to Kaiapoi. St Peter’s, Southland Girls’, St Hilda’s and Dunstan all played their second games last night.
