Motorsport: Success for Otago teams

Two out of three Otago teams will be travelling home today with trophies in their suitcases after Saturday's Altherm 1000 at Hampton Downs.

Wanaka's Allan Dippie proved consistency pays, bringing his Porsche 996 across the line in second overall behind brothers Matt and Dwayne Carter in their modified Australian V8 Supercar-style Ford Falcon.

Dippie and second driver Mark Maddren (Auckland) beat another set of brothers, Wade and Mitch Cunningham, in a Porsche 997, after a collision sent them to the pits for radiator repairs.

"Also taking the 996 class win made the event the best result we've ever had in an enduro, which was especially pleasing as it was a pretty classy field," Dippie said.

Grant Aitken, of Queenstown, and Auckland co-driver Grant Liston won their production racing class and finished eighth overall.

Alexandra pairing Bruce Davidson and Dave Garden's Chevrolet Corvette sneaked in before them in seventh.

Arron Black and fellow Dunedin driver Warren Good had a dreadful weekend after a "munched motor" on Friday was followed up by a blown head gasket in Saturday's first practice.

They put a second-hand head in the BMW E46 but it did not hold up and the duo were unable to qualify.
