Motorsport: Ireland win sprint race in Chengdu

Adam Carroll drove a faultless race to hand Ireland victory in the A1 Grand Prix sprint race at Chengdu, China today.

Robert Doornbos of the Netherlands came home a comfortable second while Danny Watts held off a fierce challenge from Switzerland's Neel Jani to claim the final podium position for Great Britain.

New Zealand driver Chris van der Drift was seventh, finishing in 23 minutes 25.694 seconds, nearly half a minute behind Carroll.

The feature race was to be contested this evening.
