Motorsport: Dunedin drivers perform well

In a repeat of results from the second round of the Asko Endurance Series, Dunedin drivers Allan Dippie and Paul Coghill, paired with David Hunter, were third overall and first in class respectively at the third round at Timaru.

Saturday's three-hour race saw Dippie and co-driver Scott O'Donnell (Invercargill), in their Porsche 997 Cup S, third behind winners Simon Ellingham, of Napier, and Australian GT Series Champion Klark Quinn and defending series champion Paul Kelly, paired with Australian V8 Supercar star David Reynolds. Quinn, who will be racing in the Australian GT Series at Highlands Motorsport Park next month, set a new three-hour race lap record for a single lap.

Dippie and O'Donnell have moved into second overall in the series going into the final round at Highlands Motorsport Park on November 9.

In the class three and four honours, Coghill and Hunter won their 0-2000cc category again in their Honda Civic R ahead of Alexandra's Grant Constable and Bill Currie in a Toyota Corona.

In class two, Bryan Rusbatch and Warren Good of Dunedin were third. Racing in the one-hour series, Grant Williams made it three wins from three rounds in his Mazda RX7 V8, with fellow Christchurch driver Hayden Knighton second in his Porsche 997 GT3.

Dunedin driver Chris Henderson took his V8-powered Toyota Corolla to third overall and second in class one.
