The next Courtney Duncan could be on show at Outram this weekend.
About 200 of the country’s best young riders will compete at the junior national motocross championships at Scorgies Track on Lee Stream Rd.
It will be the first time in a decade the Mosgiel District Motorcycle Club has hosted the event and the club is looking forward to it.
The event has acted as a launch pad for Kiwi racers in the past. Otago star Courtney Duncan is among the notable names to have competed in it.
Others include Josh Coppins and Ben Townley, as well as brothers Darryll, Shayne and Damien King.
A strong Otago contingent will be present, and Grason Veitch is among the best prospects at the event.
Veitch has won the 12-14 years 125cc crown the past two years and now steps into the 15-16 years 125cc division.
He will also test himself in the 14-16 years 250cc class.
Tommy Watts may be Veitch’s toughest competitor in the 125cc competition. The Wairoa rider finished runner-up at the senior 125cc national championships in March and enters as the firm favourite to take the junior title.
There will also be 85cc and 65cc categories at the championships. The junior age-groups range from 8 to 16-year-olds. The event runs today and tomorrow.
