The Queenstown team beat the Cantabrians 8-2 on Saturday and 11-3 on Sunday, giving it its first unbeaten away two-match weekend in the league's round-robin competition.
Winning the two games back to back bucked the league leader's trend of letting one away game slip away in each previous round's matches.
Rectifying that before the finals was something coach Adam Blanchette identified as a key goal leading into last weekend's matches.
``I talked to the boys and it was kind of one last thing on our regular season checklist to do,'' he said.
``It's really good to get some big scores and just finish off with a bit of momentum and take that into the finals.''
The Stampede's game one victory came courtesy of four goals from Colin McIntosh, while Tomi Martikainen and Callum Burns slotted one each.
Its crushing first-up win meant Blanchette could experiment with his squad in game two, which resulted in the Stampede piling on even more goals.
``It kind of allows us to get some new situations for players, that we might not have been able to if we didn't win the first game,'' Blanchette said.
McIntosh took a back seat in game two and left it to Matthew Schneider to pile on six goals.
``It's kind of the story of our season. If one guy is not scoring or they try to shut down one of our top guys, the rest of the team pick it up.''
On the defensive side, regular goalkeeper Aston Brookes earned a breather during game two, giving Matt Swirtz more game time and he impressed Blanchette with his effort.
``We put him into a tough situation and he did a great job and he got the win.''
The Stampede will head to Auckland to play the West Auckland Admirals in game one of the league's three-match finals series on August 19.
The following two matches, if both are needed, will be played in Queenstown on August 25-26.
The Stampede followed finishing best of the competition's five teams during the round-robin stage to earn home finals advantage with a quiet day yesterday.
``We will take a second to appreciate our accomplishments, but then come back to the rink [today] ready to work towards finishing off the way we want to,'' Blanchette said.
The Admirals looked set to take similar winning form into the leagues finals after beating fellow Auckland side the Botany Swarm 8-1 on Saturday.
However, the lowly-ranked Swarm turned around its fortunes in game two to win 5-4.
Aside from the finals series, the only other matches to be played in this year's hockey league are two rescheduled round-robin fixtures featuring the Dunedin Thunder and Canterbury Red Devils in Dunedin this weekend.
