The Southern Stampede notched a 3-2 victory over the West Auckland Admirals as the New Zealand Ice Hockey League resumed on Friday.
But they backed that up with a 3-2 loss to the Admirals in Queenstown on Saturday.
In the opening game, Declan Quinn opened the scoring in the fourth minute for the Admirals, but Lachlan Frear equalised in the first period.
Justin Daigle struck in the power play for the Admirals, but the Stampede again hit back, this time through Nolan Ross.
Late in the third period, Ross added another to secure the victory.
In the Saturday game, Ross scored the opening goal for the Stampede.
The Admirals had the better of the second period with goals to Quinn and Max Vesper, and Frear added another for the Stampede to level 2-2.
Scott Henry finished things for the Admirals to win. But the Stampede are still at the top of the table.
In the women’s national league, defending champions Auckland Steel had a big 8-2 win over the Dunedin Thunder.
Camryn Linton and captain Rebecca Lilly scored for the Thunder in Avondale.
The Wakatipu Wild had a narrow 4-3 loss to the Canterbury Inferno.
The Wild were down 3-1 early in the final period but they fought back with a late flurry of goals to Kelli Burstein and Kellye Nelson.
