Otago's top players will tee off in the first of the trial series tournaments over 36 holes on the Chisholm Links course on Sunday.
With the recent success of the men's team with three national interprovincial seconds and one SBS strokeplay win, there will be keen competition to be part of the action.
There already considerable depth in the list of trialists has been boosted by Duncan Croudis' return to amateur status.
The first 72-hole event will be on the Kelvin Heights course in Queenstown on September 2-3 and that will be followed by a 36-hole tournament in Wanaka the following Saturday.
After the fourth listed trial, the 72-hole Spring Tournament in North Otago, selection convener Jason Hughes will name 10 players to compete against Southland at the end of September.
Players are urged to play in as many trial events as possible and the panel will also consider performances in 2017 Order of Merit tournaments as well as pennant matchplay results.
The match against Southland will be the first opportunity for players to display their matchplay skills which will be important as that is how the national event is decided.
The trialists will have two more chances in the Southland matchplay in Gore on September 23-24 as well as the Otago championships at Balmacewen over Labour Weekend.
The top eight players will then be named to compete in the South Island interprovincial in Invercargill on November 11-12.
The process comes to an end with the top quintet plus reserve named to compete in the national interprovincial at Mangawhai on December 5-9.
