Ryan Shuttleworth has put his hand up for inclusion in the 10-man Otago team after carding the best gross in the Wanaka men's tournament played over 18 holes on Saturday.
The event was scheduled to be decided over two rounds but the course was unplayable at the start of the day, with snow on the greens.
This year's Wanaka tournament was plagued by poor weather. The women's event was cut to one round on Wednesday, while the men's foursomes competition was abandoned on Friday.
Shuttleworth finished in the top 10 in the 72-hole Queenstown event a week earlier and was seventh over 36 holes at the Chisholm Links event.
Shuttleworth finished with 74 in the Wanaka round, during which the 60-strong field struggled with strong winds, snow and rain.
He finished a single shot ahead of Ben Turner and Brandon Hodgson (both Otago), while Murray Studholme (Wanaka) and Ben Patston (Otago) were tied for fourth a further shot back.
Turner and Hodgson were both on target to take the honours but Turner lost shots at the penultimate hole, while Hodgson made a double bogey on the final hole.
Shuttleworth showed some character, fighting back after starting with a double-bogey six on the first hole and a bogey on the par 3 second.
He birdied the fourth and fifth holes but turned 2 over par after making a bogey four on the sixth hole.
Coming home he made seven pars, with bogeys at 13 and 16 for his 4-over-par round of 74.
The final trial will be over 72 holes on the North Otago course next weekend before selection convener Jason Hughes names the 10 players to compete against Southland at Oreti Sands in Invercargill at the end of the month.
