Otago will play Wellington in the playoff for fifth at the Women’s Interprovincials at Akarana Golf Club today.
The side recorded two wins on day four of the tournament.
It had a 3-2 win against Taranaki in the early round. Otago No 1 Sumin Kang beat Hollie Winter 4/3, Yoonae Jeong won 1-up against Lucinda Searle and Kathryn Baker beat Joanne McDonald 3/2.
But Abby Crawford and Rebecca Calder lost their fixtures, to Debbie McCallum and Rochelle Keegan respectively.
The afternoon game went perfectly, with Otago recording a clean sweep against Waikato.
But Auckland has proved why it is the favourite.
The four-time defending champion was unbeaten heading into the final day of round robin play but needed at least one win to secure a spot in today's semifinals.
Auckland won 4-1 against Wellington and 3-2 against Bay of Plenty, which had also been unbeaten heading into its final round-robin game.
Auckland locked up the number one seed with the win.
Canterbury sneaked into second place after recording wins against Northland and Manawatu-Whanganui.
It will play Bay of Plenty in one semifinal, while Auckland will play North Harbour, which lost to Bay of Plenty in the morning but bounced back to beat Wellington in what was effectively a quarterfinal.
