Patrick  Moore has been appointed as the new professional at the St Clair Golf Club and began work and stocking his shop yesterday morning.

Moore (29) replaces Neil Metcalfe, who resigned in May after spending 11 years as the club's professional.

Moore's previous position was as the assistant professional to Craig Owen at the Ngamotu course in New Plymouth.

He was educated at Tawa College in Wellington and did not play much competitive amateur golf, having opted to embark on club apprenticeship training as a 19-year-old.

He moved to Taupo as an apprentice to James Morgan and spent five years as assistant at the club before moving to Ngamotu with Owen.

The AAA PGA professional has acted as team coach to the Taranaki women's team and has had plenty to do with the Taranaki juniors.

``I am a bit sad to leave as early this year we started a Taranaki junior academy with the whole package of professional training as well as having a physical trainer and physiotherapist on board,'' he said.

``It was going very well with our small number of younger players making giant strides during this year.

``However, I am excited to come to St Clair, as I played the course 15 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.''

``I have stocked the shop with plenty of golf equipment and still have a lot of orders yet to arrive.

``It is a small shop and so it already looks fairly full but I am keen to have plenty on offer to the members and visitors.

Moore will have a busy start to his tenure getting to know the club members during the next few weeks and hosting the South Island interprovincial team tournament on November 5-6.
