Momoka Kobori (Rangiora) led from the outset to win the South Island women's golf championship which was played in fine conditions over four rounds at St Clair during the weekend.
Kobori (15) carded rounds of 71, 76, 71 and 74 to finish five shots ahead of Brooke Hamilton (Maungakiekie). Russley's Hillary O'Connor was third, a further shot back.
Playing off a handicap of +2.0, Kobori has a bright future as she has only been playing golf for four years and is in her third year of competitive golf.
The Rangiora High School year 11 pupil is no stranger to success, having recently won the Canterbury stroke play title at Waimairi Beach.
She topped the list in the New Zealand Faldo tournament and, along with Hamilton, has qualified to compete in the Faldo Grand final in China in March.
Local schoolgirls Abigael Crawford (St Clair) and Annabel Evans (Port Chalmers) continue to improve and finished 13th and 15th respectively.
