When you go all the way to Thailand, you want to be noticed.

With nice bright green shorts, the John McGlashan College golf team is certain to turn heads next month.

The eight-strong team, which is split into two teams of four, will line up in the world schools golf challenge in Thailand.

The team has been busy raising funds over the past few months to get to the event, which will be played over four courses in the resort city of Hua Hin.

Coach Shelly Duncan said the golf would be of a high standard and about 35 teams would be competing. Schools were coming from all over the world to line up in the tournament.

The tournament was based on a best net team score, and was bound to be very competitive, she said.

All but two of the team went to Melbourne last year for the same tournament and when the players heard it was heading to Thailand, they were keen to attend again.

The eight players will be divided into two teams just before the competition.

The tournament will be played over four rounds, starting on April 1, on four different courses.

Duncan said with the players being able to prepare on only two of the courses, it was going to be a tough week.

The heat, which could be upwards of 40degC, was also going to be hard, and the players had taken some advice on how to keep up the fluid intake and stay out of the sun when possible.

As for the shorts, Duncan said the trend now in golf was to wear bright colours that stood out as much as possible. The team also had white tops to try to keep cool in the heat.
