Mark Brooks (Queenstown) is the only Otago player to make the final day of play in the South Island matchplay championships which conclude on the Levels course in Timaru today.
Brooks will meet Drew Atkins (Coringa) in one semifinal, while Cody Harper (Invercargill) will face Timaru schoolboy Tim Leonard in the other match-up.
Brooks made his way to the final day by beating Daniel Shin (Coringa) in the morning and top qualifier Mark O'Malley (Ashburton) in the afternoon.
Leonard beat Phillip Bungard (Chisholm Park) in the morning round after Bungard had posted the best qualifying score of 145, along with O'Malley and Harper.
O'Malley was given top spot after his 1-under-par 71 in the afternoon in a round which showed much promise.
He was 6 under par after seven holes, which included a hole in one with a six iron on the 155m par-three 15th.
He dropped a shot at the 18th and lost a ball on his back nine which halted his assault on par.
Island Park greenkeeper Michael Minty and Simon Boland (Queenstown) were the only other Otago golfers to make the senior field.
Both made early exits - Boland to top qualifier O'Malley, while Minty could not match Harper who made four birdies and ten pars to win 4 and 3.
Duncan Croudis (Otago) is the only other Otago player in a championship field.
He won through to an intermediate semifinal, beating Thomas Facer (Otago) and Ben Cant (North Otago) yesterday.
