The Canterbury men's team scored a double when it joined the women's team as outright winner of the South Island interprovincial team tournament on the Methven course during the weekend.
Canterbury won four games with 23.5 game wins to finish as winner ahead of Tasman which was second with three points and 20.5 games.
After some recent good form, Otago was disappointing, finishing third with two points and 16 games.
Otago beat Aorangi 5.5-2.5 and Southland 5-3 but lost to Tasman by three games and to Canterbury by two games.
After some pleasing results leading up to the event, convenor Jason Hughes and fellow selectors Mahal Pearce and Craig Palmer will have some difficult decisions to make before naming the final five to compete in the national interprovincial tournament at Clearwater in the last week of November.
The top two, Brandon Hodgson and Scott Hellier, finished with one win and one half each while the youthful middle order had 50% records.
No3 Jack Turner had two wins and two losses while No4 Callum Judkins had a win, two halves and one loss.
No5 Duncan Croudis and No6 Ryan Bellamy emerged with one win each which is well below expectations.
To make things more difficult for the selection trio, the tail wagged with No8 Jonny MacKay (Lower Waitaki) winning all four games while No7 Ben Patston had three wins and one loss.
It is always difficult to compare players' performances as matches against lower-rated players are easier.
But MacKay could do no more than his 100% winning record while Patston with three from four will be putting pressure on the team members.
The selectors may be ready to name the Otago women's team for the national event but are likely to wait until after the New Zealand amateur championships at Wairakei in Taupo this week before naming the final men's quintet.
