The top four or five players booked their places during the trial series but the rest of the trial players had mixed results.
There remains a good opportunity for players to impress, as the province's top two players, Fraser MacLachlan and Inia Logan, are not available for the fixture.
South Island champion MacLachlan will be in New Plymouth for work commitments and is taking the opportunity to play in the Charles Tour event during that weekend, while Logan will be competing in Australia as a member of the New Zealand junior team. Both players will be available for the South Island team event in November.
A feature of the team is the inclusion of two younger players in Jonny Mackay (18) and Joseph Hancock (14), playing at No8 and No9 respectively.
Mackay has put his hand up this year, making the Otago under-19 team for the South Island teams event as well as the Cambridge tournament.
Hancock won the gold medal for the under-15 field in Nelson recently. He played well in Queenstown and was one shot off the leaders in the Wanaka trial tournament.
''It was a difficult task but we feel we have a good mix of youth and experience in this team,'' selection convener Jason Hughes said.
''There were nine trialling golfers with stroke averages between 75 and 77, with not much between them.''
Hughes was quick to point out that the next major event would be the Otago matchplay championships at Balmacewen at Labour Weekend.
''The players were so close that the tournament at Balmacewen gives many players the opportunity to impress, whether they are currently in the team or not.''
The selection panel of Hughes, Mahal Pearce and Craig Palmer will then name eight players and a reserve to play in the South Island team event at St Clair on November 5-6.
